DFS grinder and professional filmmaker Jason “TheJBaum” Baumgardner has released the trailer to Perfect Lineup, a daily fantasy documentary which explores the industry’s explosive growth, while spotlighting some of the best-known figures in the game.
“As an avid fantasy sports fan and as a professional filmmaker, the idea of combining the two into one project was a dream idea for me,” Baumgardner posted on RotoGrinders. “I dove headfirst and started shooting. I wanted the film to capture the real experience of the game, the lifestyles, the competition, and the community of DFS.”
In the film, Baumgardner interviews industry standouts like Millionaire Maker winner Drew Dinkmeyer, RotoGrinders radio host Dan Back and FanDuel CEO Nigel Eccles. The documentary will span an entire DFS season and will focus on how DFS has changed the lives for the better of many of those involved.
“I get to talk about sports for a living, play daily fantasy sports, and oh yeah, by the way, I get to watch my kids grow up in front of me,” said Back. “The fact that I get to be around them every day is amazing, I’m so lucky,” he added.
Kickstarter donations needed
Baumgardner says that he and his partners have poured considerable personal resources into the project, but still need about 15% more financing to finish the film. To achieve that goal they’ve set up a Kickstarter with the goal of raising $40,000 in pledges by September 18.
In exchange for donations, backers will receive incentives starting at pledges of two dollars or more. On the higher end, viewers donating more than $149 will receive a DailyRoto subscription along with the book, “How to Win at DFS.” For $1,000 or more, the producers will display your company logo in the end credits, or for $2,000 or more your logo will appear in the opening title sequence. Pledge $4,500 and you’ll get a coproducer credit and attend the red carpet premiere of the film. Donations of $8,000 or more will buy an executive producer credit, DVD interview and two tickets to the premier.
At the time of this writing, the Kickstarter has raised $4,275 with 27 days to go to reach its goal. The director has more interviews planned and will continue filming at upcoming live events. Baumgardner says that the bulk of the expenses, however, go to finishing up and polishing the film in postproduction. “The biggest risk we face with Perfect Lineup is not having the financing to pay the fees for postproduction,” he said. He adds that by the time they finish shooting, they will only have eight weeks to put the final touches on the film. With a bigger budget, he hopes to hire an experienced team that can get the job done quickly.
The trailer is very well done and we don’t doubt that the finished product will look amazing. If you’d like to donate, you can check out the Perfect Lineup Kickstarter page here, and get more information about the film and pledge incentives like T-shirts, DFS books and more.
