DraftKings has officially announced the 2015 edition of its Fantasy Baseball World Championship (FBWC), which will feature $3 million in guaranteed prizes, including $1 million for first place. The event will be held at the Wynn Hotel in Las Vegas, where up to 60 qualifiers will compete for DFS fame and huge cash awards during August 12-16.
In addition to an FBWC entry, qualifiers will be treated to a four-night VIP stay at the Wynn, and be given $1,000 in cash to cover airfare. Players will also have the option to take part in “exciting excursions,” such as ATV desert racing. DraftKings estimates that the all-inclusive package alone is worth $55,500.
Players will be allowed up to four entries each, with last-place taking $10,000 and the winner pocketing a $1 million payout. The second place finisher will take home $400,000 while third and fourth place will bank $200,000 and $150,000 respectively. Qualifiers begin on Friday and start at $1,000 a pop, but users will have the opportunity to win entries in $33 and $300 qualifiers, as well as through satellites starting at just $.25.
The championship will include the nine MLB games that start between 7:05 PM-7:15 PM EST on August 15 and be held in a special lounge area at the Wynn, which DraftKings describes as the “ultimate live event viewing experience.”
Last year, DFS wunderkind Peter “CSURAM88” Jennings topped a field of 50 entries to claim the $1 million first place prize at the Atlantis Resort in the Bahamas. Jennings, along with second place finisher Jay “DirtyGirl15” Raynor, both had an upper hand on their competitors with three entries each to their names.
DraftKings recently announced that it would expand its partnership with Major League Baseball and become the league’s official daily fantasy game. The deal will also give the site prime advertising placement at stadiums and on the league’s digital platforms.
