Just a week after FanDuel announced a $5 million guaranteed contest for NFL opening week, DraftKings has responded by hyping a massive $10 million Millionaire Maker first-week contest of its own.
The eight figure guarantee will claim the title of the richest DFS contest to date and quite possibly indicate that DraftKings has now surpassed its chief rival to become the biggest daily fantasy site in the world.
Players can buy into the record-breaking contest for $20, and play a maximum of 500 entries each. The first place finisher will receive a stunning $2 million, with second banking $1 million, and third pocketing $500,000. Grinders also have the option of winning their $20 entry through a variety of satellites for as little as $.25.
But the event, billed as “the biggest fantasy football contest of all time,” is only one part of DraftKings’ opening week contests. The site will also offer a $1 million Play-Action tourney, a $300,000 Thunder Dome contest and a $250,000 guarantee, for a total of $11.5 million in prizes for the week.
Who will come out on top?
While DraftKings’ first week extravaganza blows away FanDuel’s $6.25 million in prizes, the latter has assured that it would award $2 billion in prizes this year, while its competitor expects to pay out only $1 billion.
The one-upmanship continues as these two DFS giants battle it out to gain the most market share. Both sides have been locking in partnerships and sponsorship deals, and in some cases, even increasing guarantees to outdo one another.
